A couple of days ago, Flartus jokingly worried about whether Bernard is growing up and becoming a mature young donkey.
Don’t worry, Flartus. He’s not. We give you five minutes of a still typical Bernard evening:
Nigel: Oh good grief, Gracie. There he goes again.
Ellsworth: There he goes again, Buck.
Ellsworth: Round and round he goes, where he stops, nobody knows.
Bernard: I never want to grow up. Hey, I wonder if Gracie wants to play with me.
Bernard: Not so much. I wonder if I can find someone who does.
Bernard: Buck, do you want to play with me?
Bernard: Please?
Buck: Okay, Bernard, I’ll play with you.
Bernard: Squirrel! Oh look, there’s mamma! Mamma, do you want to play with me?
Me: Oh dear. His ears are back. That means he really wants to play.
Bernard: Squirrel! Oh look, there’s Patrick! Patrick, do you want to play with me?
And there you have it. See? Don’t worry. ♥ ♥ ♥

I think Bernard is a bit like a husband – you think they’re all grown up and then they do something DAFT! Then again, maybe it’s just a general boy thing?

Thank you!
“Squirrel!!” lol

Before he could find somebody to play with, I think he’s playing with his shadow (#s 5,6,7,8).

Poor baby, no one will play with him.
On a side note: What do folks say to their dogs/what gets dogs excited in countries where they don’t have squirrels?
If we want our dogs to go out when they really don’t want to, we say “squirrel” and out they go.

We back up to a boarding barn. We say – Who is that? Off they go!
No squirrels here. I think the coyotes eat them as appetizers. :-/

I think Bernard is the same age as my guys. I hope they never grow up.
Is Buck still his new playmate most of the time? And where is that bucket when he needs a friend?

Whew! That’s a relief! Those first few photos it looks like he’s practicing for a Western Pleasure class.

In my opinion, Barnyard will never be a grown up donkey. He may just have passing moments of calm in an otherwise delightful playful existence. Bernard is my Peter Pan hero…what a corker and friendly to all his farm mates. Hurray for waking up to see a happy post about donkeys!

After “hanging out” with you, Danni and Carson, I can’t wait to get more land so I can add more donkeys to play with my Ripley. Their personalities are priceless!

If my little Emma and your Bernard ever got together, the world would never be the same. It may be for the best that there are several thousand miles between them:)

Somehow, I’ve got that Todd Rundgren song, “bang on the Drum” stuck in my head now!

I’m with Bernard. Growing up is totally over rated.
