Ellsworth, a.k.a. our sentinel, evaluated a potential security breach at Morning Bray Farm yesterday afternoon.

Ms. Turkey must feel safe around the boys. She fixed herself up with a nest just on the other side of the corral fence. She’s sitting on a dozen or so eggs.

Well, THAT will certainly be entertaining to watch! We want lots of baby turkey photos, please.
Is this a wild or tame turkey? We have wild ones here in WI, but they are very dark. I’m guessing domestic turkey?

That is so cool! Can’t wait to see the pictures of the baby turkeys. I actually saw a wild turkey a cpl of days ago beside the road and he wasn’t as good looking as that one. The one I saw was brown.

I am also in WI and was thinking same thing, we only see dark turkeys here.
I would say that mom feels safe, but turkeys are not the smartest birds, either.

Awwww….. Mz. Giblets obviously knows that Burros are excellent protection from predators! Of course, the LongEar Patrol can only help her on one side of the fence but as has already been stated, turkeys are not the brightest of animals. It will be interesting to see what happens from here…

How cool! I hope we get a peek at the eggs, and can’t wait to see the babies!
My husband took me to one of his favorite golf courses one time so we could look for turkeys and sandhill cranes. We saw the adult turkeys in the tall grass, and heard lots of peeping on the other side of the cart path. We just sat still, and eventually the young ones (they were “big kid” turkeys at that point, not babies) scurried and flew across to mom and dad. We couldn’t see them at all when they were in the grass, so we were glad we had seen them go across the path.
We saw the cranes, too, and got fairly close to them, too, as they were pretty used to people toddling around in golf carts…..
It’s a beautiful course (Calderone, between Ann Arbor and Chelsea, right along I94), and it was really fun to get to see the big birds up close and personal.
