Yesterday, we traveled north (about ten miles west of Taos) to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Standing 650 feet above the Rio Grande, it’s the fifth highest bridge in the United States.
The bridge span is 1,280 feet.
In 1966, the American Institute of Steel Construction awarded the bridge “Most Beautiful Steel Bridge” in the “Long Span” category. The bridge was built in the cantilever truss style and is the second highest bridge of its construction in the country.
Funny how last week in the hot air balloon, I was cool as a cucumber. Walking across the bridge yesterday, my legs felt like jello. Go figure.

The sheer size of the natural (and of course manufactured, like this bridge) things where you is astonishing to me. I have no comprehension of things that big.
But I remember THAT BRIDGE IN DELAWARE well enough to know I would not walk across your bridge. With legs of iron or of jello.

My legs feel like jello, and I’m only looking at your photos!
That’s a really big river, right?

With all of that wind yesterday, perhaps you were fearful of blowing into the gorge?

Stunning views again.
My husband is the same way. In a plane no problem – from a high building or bridge quivering.

I had the chance to see the bridge and gorge last year. It is truly awe-inspiring, and your pictures are great!

Great pics! It’s so green; I’m surprised!
If you go up in the thing in Toronto that looks like the Seattle Space Needle (CNN Tower???), there is a place up there where the floor is plexiglas.
I am not afraid of heights.
But.
There was NO WAY (*NO WAY*) I was walking on that.
Uh uh. No way. No how.
Odd, the things that do and don’t bother us!

Very Beautiful. It would be hard for me to go out on the bridge.
