There are a few things that set Kassie off. Each time the air conditioner shuts off is one of them. If you listen, you might hear a high-pitched whine coming from the unit… we’re sure that’s what she’s barking at. Why this sets Kassie off and not our other dogs, we don’t know.
We do know that Kassie doesn’t like new or unknown things. No kidding… she once barked incessantly at a very large mushroom she discovered in our backyard in Maryland.

Mostly likely the high pitch bothers Kassie’s ears. Our Missy is quite sensitive to some sounds and will go outside if something in the house bothers her. Handsome could care less, although he is scared of floor fans. Dogs are so hilarious but have hang-ups/quirks just like some humans. Cute video.

Kassie is barking at the little hamsters that are running in the wheel to make your A/C operate. It’s as simple as that!!
We had an Aussie who wouldn’t bark until he had something in his mouth. He would run around the house madly looking for something; a sock, a kitchen towel, a stuffed toy, before he’d begin to bark. He was a silly dog!

Our large dog (German shorthair pointer) is terribly afraid of thunderstorms and loud noises. He goes into complete panic mode when a storm is approaching and tries to hide in the bathtub (he’s also afraid of baths too, so this is quite strange). One day I was popping bubble wrap and we discovered he was afraid of that too. Big baby! 🙂
We catch ground squirrels in our yard (live traps) and relocate them. After we catch one, I usually bring it up to the porch and put it in the shade until my husband can take it somewhere far away and release it (usually the next day on his way to work). My husband and I refer to them as “critters.” Well my papillon is very intrigued by these critters and when we even say the word, he runs to the patio door and starts whining looking for the cage.

Had a dog that everytime he saw a balloon he would freak out. Oh wait, he freaked out at everything. He was the one who fainted when he looked up when it was snowing.
All the animals here all have their quirks.
One of the horses is terrified of the John Deer Gator, except when it has hay in it!

Good thing is you guys won’t have any rogue air conditioners sneaking up on as long as she’s on duty!
Schnauzers bark at everything, so it’s just the usual rabbits, squirrels, dogs walking by, people taking walks, doorbells, violin students walking in, the usual. 🙂

My little rescue Bichon goes BANANAS over birds! He hates them. Chases them all over the yard. He even looks up in the sky to bark at the ones flying overhead. It’s hilarious but gets annoying.

I think that the sound bothers Kassie’s ears… Our Flora is very sensitive to some sounds like telephone’s rings. When she hear that sounds, she goes quickly to another room. Another sound that Flora dislike so much is thunderstorm.

It’s a herding dog thing (though, clearly, lots of dogs do it).
Part of their job is to know their territory, spot anomalies, and report same to the boss.
After having corgis for so many years, it is weird to not have a watch dog. Wilbur Just Does Not Care.
He’s interested if dogs walk by, but people? Even people who come right up the walk (like the mailman)?
Nope. No interest at all.
As for barking at odd things … one time we brought home a large stuffed toy bear. It was sitting in a chair. It had been there for a few hours before my first corgi noticed it, but all her hackles went up and she raised an alarm the moment she did notice. 🙂

The doorbell..if the doorbell rings chaos begins. Gordy gets agitated when a neighborhood Yorkie walks by and so does the Yorkie. They’ve met and like to play, but the other dog’s owner is fearful their dog will get hurt. Georgie will bark at the fly swatter when it is being used. She is very fearful of fireworks and similar noises.

The two dogs I currently have don’t get too weird at most things. I had a German Shepherd about twenty years ago that freaked out at hot air balloons flying overhead. He’d hear them coming and go nuts. We don’t seem to have them any more. I think high insurance costs made it unaffordable for people.

Oh yeah, Jack hee hawing sets Jill off. Well, just seeing Jack gets Jill barking IF Jack is on the other side of the fence. IF Jack and Jill are on the same side of the fence, then Jill is very quite.
Air Conditioners are so wonderful right now. With temps over 100 most days this week, cool air was very nice. I was just wondering when I went out to the barn to feed the animals how all those years growing up without air conditioning I survived in Georgia heat?? and I don’t even remember being that hot then!

One of my dogs began by barking at squirrels, then moved on to birds, then vultures (they ride the thermals on our ridge), and finally on to airplanes. Not low flying, local planes. Planes at 10,000 ft. headed into the airport.

Love the wagging tail!!
My cat Purrcy spent some time obsessed with the movie “March of the Penguins.” Seriously. He would stand in front of the TV and meow and paw at the screen until I would put it on. I’m not sure why he liked it so much. I finally had to buy one of those cat entertainment DVD’s to give myself a break from the penguin noises. The song birds were much more soothing.
Of course, this is the cat who fetches and also sits in his water bowl on a regular basis…

Oh my, where to start! The sound of Harley-Davidson motorcycles drive our dogs crazy, as does anyone knocking on the door. However, I think the oddest thing is that our huge Lab mix is such a happy go lucky goof and doesn’t care what happens to him in play or whatever, and will wag his tail so vigorously, slamming it into walls, making a huge noise, without any reaction whatsoever, but if you so much as touch the tip of it, he jumps and yelps like he’s being maimed!! His reaction is absolutely hilarious.
