There has been more activity at the nest outside our kitchen window this past week. When we looked out yesterday, we watched as a hummingbird appeared to be feeding something in the nest. This picture was taken through the kitchen window:
When the hummingbird flew off, we ran outside to see if there were babies in the nest. Don climbed up on our porch railing…
…and yes, there are two babies in the nest.
June over at Aging Gratefully asked about this nest a couple of times. We’re pretty sure these babies were delivered just for her. ♥

Although I have many hummers that come to feed, I have yet to find a nest. Your pictures are awesome!

Wow, a real hummer nest and babies for us to watch through you.
Great material for future blog entries! Can’t wait to watch them grow up (fast, no doubt).

Oh my goodness! I would be over the top excited if I found a nest like this. Very cool! I recently bought two more hummingbird feeders to go with the three I already have and my family is making fun of me saying this is a sure sign of becoming an old lady. 🙂 Great pictures!!!

It’s funny, you have one right on the porch. I have searched and searched for nests and never found one.

Are you sure it’s not a moth?

That is amazing. Like most of the others, I havent seen a hummingbird nest before, either. It looks so soft…almost like it has been felted.
That would be so fun to watch those little ones grow. 🙂

June,
I’m smiling. 🙂 Momma is sitting on the nest this morning and we saw her feeding the babies yesterday, so all is well. 🙂

With that picture you have given me a gift I have never received before and will likely never receive the like of again.
A once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Hummingbirds amaze me for so many reasons. To think that even the little ruby throats we have way up here fly all the way south and all the way across the Gulf of Mexico (I have read that they are sometimes only 18″ above the water there)….astonishing feat for creatures barely three inches tall.
