I used one word repeatedly to describe where I was the last couple of days… gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
Abiquiu. Georgia O’Keeffe lived here from 1949 until her death in 1986 at 98 years of age.
The landscape. The colors. The light. Gorgeous.
I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.

Georgia must have been inspired by those views on a daily basis. The Southwestern U.S. is such a special place.

If you have to be away from your family for a few days, at least it was a worthy destination. We missed you.

She was an incredible artist – there was an exhibit of her work in one of our local museums and I missed New Mexico so much afterwards.
Fantastic photos. Looks like you are enjoying your trip (despite the lack of burros)!

My, that brings back memories. That’s one of the things The Frenchman and I loved so much about NM – the colours.
Is that water in the distance…?!?

Carolynn,
Yes, that’s Abiquiu Lake. It’s a reservoir of water from the Chama River, created by the Abiquiu Dam.

Stunning! I can see why she lived there. I love living in the SW…but sometimes miss all the greenery of the east coast.

I agree with CeeCee. NM is astoundingly beautiful in its own rugged way, but I couldn’t live there either. I need trees, lots and lots of trees.
That doesn’t stop me from appreciating these views though. I have the utmost respect for any creature, including humans, who can make their home in such a place. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve only had the chance to come out to your neck of the woods 2-3 times. And it does take ones breath away. I didn’t think I would find dry and “brown” so amazing but there are soooo many colors and there is just something about the air, energy…..
thanks for sharing those wonderful pics

Every part of our continent has its own unique beauty. I love the colors, and the quote. I can see how it would inspire an artist to live there.
