Back in June, we took the boys’ Jolly Ball away after we discovered Bernard stepping on and shredding it. Naturally, we were terrified that Bernard would eventually swallow a piece of it.
The following week, we brought home a brand new Jolly Ball for the boys. Blue Jolly Ball wound up with the same fate – in the trash can – after only one day. Just like that, Mister Bernard had shredded it.
Fast forward several weeks. Guess what happened to neon orange traffic cone? If you guessed trash can, you’re right. Poor, poor traffic cone… chewed to bits by Bernard. Note: This picture is obviously not from July of this year, but it is the cutest picture ever of Barnyard with the traffic cone. It may also be the reason Bernard felt it was necessary to shred traffic cone.
So, imagine our surprise yesterday evening when we looked out the window to see something that looked a bit like this. Really, Bernard?
Don had obviously parked the tractor too close to the corral and Bernard was sucking/chewing on the tractor tire. Really, Bernard? ♥ ♥ ♥
Note: Tractor is not in trash. Tractor was moved.

I know it’s bad to have favorites, but Barnyard is mine…shhhhh….

Perhaps his new nickname should be “Jaws” instead of Goober! That goofball. Could he be teething?
Good save on the tractor tire, by the way.

Dang! I’m w/C in WI – that little goober must be teething! Love the shot of the cone on his ba-donkey-donk!

I’m trying to think of something indestructible that Bernard could use to amuse himself – the only things that come to mind are Ellsworth, Nigel, Fergus, Don and Justina. I’ll keep thinking…

Obviously he has a thing for rubber. Not the tractor tire for heaven sakes… that’s a bit expensive!

Oh, Dear. Bernard. What are we going to do with you? We need to figure out some sort of enrichment toy for your corral that won’t hurt you if you shred it and eat it.
Something other than a tractor.

Oh that Bernard! 🙂 He would fit in well with my herd! They haven’t met a jolly ball or traffic cone that they can’t destroy within hours.

Baby pictures are the cutest and this one of Bernard takes the cake. What a little rascal. Maybe he’s not getting enough to eat.
Kidding.

Now I see why you call him Goober!!! What would he do with one of those giant size nylon “bones” for dogs? That is, if you could find one that tastes like a tracter tire?

Bernard sounds like our dog, Captain D. He cannot have stuffed toys because he makes mincemeat out of them, and he will shred the skin off a tennis ball in no time. Neal finally resorted to buying him a kid’s bicycle tire as a toy and it lasted longer than anything else. However, it eventually met its deminse thanks to the jaws of the Captain!
I’m thinking maybe Bernard is onto something there. A tractor tire just might be the toy he needs!

Oh boy, that brought me to remind me how Enzi, your princess dog, chewed one of my favorite pair of shoes; clogs! Perhaps Bernard is teething like a baby??? 😀

We have an old race car tire in the pasture for our horses. The race car tires don’t have belts in them and are made of only rubber so nothing to get hurt on. They are the big 18″ wide late model tires. You should see if you can find one, I bet Bernard can’t destroy one of them! Here’s an old video of them playing with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fswusUg-crg

Looks like everyone already pointed out that B. needs a car tire. 🙂
Can he come for a sleepover this weekend?

Could you just get an old tractor tire that they could chew on? Those things make pretty good hay feeders here in WI.

Well, obviously he’s suffering from a rubber deficiency specific to his lineage. You always knew he was a rare breed, right? 😉

Oh my Bernard!! Maybe he needs a real tire of his own! Not one attched to the tractor of course. Been there done that with cones. Jolly balls seem to last a bit longer. Although, the donkeys here now have one of those big round bouy things that they have yet to destroy. It looks like what they use on the show Deadliest Catch.

I’m sitting here, cackling at your adorable Bernard 🙂 It’s funny how each one has their own ‘taste’ for certain objects or materials. I did have a very cute mini donkey crossing sign (plastic). Gracie took a bite out of it while it was in my hand, and I quickly fished the bite from her mouth. And that’s exactly what I said.. “Really?!” And why?? Love the cone pic! We must find a cone for the girls to try out. They could care less about their jolly ball however.. I *would* send it to Bernard..
but.. 🙂

Maybe Bernard could t a job as a taste tester? Just sayin..
If he needs something to shred, how about tree branches? That’s what I give Beamer, he had a grand ole time with them.
