Water is the driver of nature.

As of last week, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District is moving water again.
Irrigation season has begun.
Change is coming and excitement is in the air.
There’s a party going on…
…and everyone’s invited.
And while some may stay longer than others…
…everyone’s having a great time.

That looks exactly like a party!
…and no wonder.

Seems weird to see so many geese in what is essentially a dry place. 🙂 We have thousands of Canada geese here. They no longer migrate; they just hang out here…..
LOVE that shot of the cranes overhead! Wow!

Such beautiful pictures can really make my day better! They certainly emanate positive vibes of the coming spring.
May I ask what camera do you use?

Soon those sandhills will flap their way north to Nebraska. Did you know that if they get a good tailwind, they can do the trip in one day?

We plan to go for a bike ride down by the river to welcome the arrival of the water!

I wonder if all your readers know that this is your yard? Perhaps you could get Bernard to stand amongst the fowl next time?

Oh, my… with all that water and the increased day length, that pasture is going to be GREEN in no time.
I’m jealous of your cranes. I’ve only ever seen cranes twice in my life – once they were flying up really high in the air and once they were at the Arsenal, but could only be viewed through a screen of trees.
I had no idea that they had such lovely tan/brown markings on their sides.
Thanks for sharing your photos, excellent as always…

Wow, those great shots you took and I really like the second one from top since we don’t get to see the bottom of the cranes while on land. Hopefully, the next time, I will see them in your yard!

I love this. And not a single one of them is worried about how they look in their swimsuits, either.

I love that they’re all mingling together trading stories by the water cooler. That second shot is wild, so symmetrical.

Rosanne,
Suprisingly, no. 99 times out of 100, they don’t give the birds a second thought.

I’m happy to report the season’s first sandhill crane sighting in WI. Last Friday on our trail ride, four of them flew over our horses, chirping (?) all the way!

Glad the Sandhill Cranes, the geese and the Mallards find safe haven in your corner of the world! Let me know if you need a birder to keep an eye on them!
