This leads me to imagine a midnight commando raid, with Bernard wielding bolt cutters, Fergus and Nigel keeping watch (with their OH so expressive ears) and Ellsworth coaxing the little guy “Come on, come on… we’re bustin you outta here and taking you to heaven on earth.”
In my mind, Ellsworth sounds like John Wayne.

You have no idea how much love and gratitude I feel for you and your husband for saving this little boy. He is the luckiest donkey in the world today! When I read the title of your post I wanted to cry with joy and sadness. Joy for the love and respect he will have forever, and sadness at what he has endured at the hands of callous people. But this is a time to focus on the joy and on all of the little donkey dreams that you have made come true for this sweet boy.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving this one. His picture had simply broken my heart and I could not stop thinking of him-obviously neither could you.
You are both incredible people for opening your hearts!
I hope he knows how many people already love him!

I just couldn’t believe when you called last night to tell us you had a new donkey in your corral – I am *so* incredibly happy for this little guy. That you managed to get him away from that horrible, disgusting place is just a testament to your and Don’s incredible hearts, perseverance and courage.

That is exactly the plan. In addition to writing a letter to the local county commissioner, we’re going to take up a collection to buy a mechanical roping dummy. I’ll work on having something out in the next couple of days.

O.M.G.!!! I came to my computer late this afternoon and find out that time has really flipped over and you have managed to rescue that beautiful little boy! Since my SIL busted a dog out of holding pen one time, I can’t be blamed for thinking as others did that you made a midnight raid to rescue Patrick! You and Don are absolutely wonderful. Anxious to see how Patrick grows in his new freedom.

OH.MY.GOD. I did not guess this was in this poor animal’s future when I read that heartbreaking post. Thank you for a needed respite from a constant diet of bad news. It makes me wish to rescue one too, and then send it to YOU for the help it needs.
