Don and I took the day off from work yesterday to go to the New Mexico State Fair donkey show. We met some really nice donkeys and their people while we were there.
This is GW and his person Judy. Judy adopted GW from Longhopes Donkey Shelter in Colorado.
Here’s Judy’s jenny, Daisy decked out with her pack saddle:

After the competition, Don and I enjoyed walking around behind the scenes to meet everyone up close and personal. Here’s one of the handsome Severs mules:
A spotted jenny named Chloe:
Who has a heart-shaped spot on her behind:
When we stopped to visit with Judy and GW, the little jenny named Patience caught my eye. When I started telling her how pretty she was, she literally started posing for me:
Really, seriously posing:
What’s not to love? ♥

Patience is a wonderful donkey name, don’t you think?
What a shame all those empty stands at the show. You need to bring Big Red to show ’em how it’s done, and Mr. Barnyard for the intermission entertainment. There’d be crowds out the door!

Looks like fun! It’s just too bad there weren’t more people around to appreciate it too.

I’m terribly envious of all the fun you had yesterday. Thank you for not posting pictures of eating pie.

Good thing no one was selling donkeys, or you might have had to bring one or two home. 🙂 They’re all beautiful! Chloe needs to come live in my backyard.

I *LOVE* the little spotted jenny!! And, tho you may know I am partial to spots, what I love the most (besides her butt-heart) is how her dorsal stripe goes aaaall-the-way-doooown-her-taillll! (I also like Judy’s split riding skirt.)

Chloe also has 2 small white spots on her back right in the very middle of her dorsal stripe. The stripe goes around the spots. Really cute. But of course, not as cute as the butt-heart!

What fun! They all look so gorgeous and Patience – there’s a beauty!! LOVE the heart on her, um, butt. What a ham.
P.S. I second Linda’s sentiment re: the pie….

Oh my goodness, what a fun day!!! And great photos.
And don’t tell the burro boyz (and Gracie), but I have always had a soft spot for mules. What a beautiful face!

What a wonderful way to spend a day off. The donkeys and mule pix were great and who indeed could resist the little spotted darling. And to think 3 years ago, I had no clue how wonderful longears could be up close and personal.
Thanks for sharing your fun day at the fair.

What fun!
Poor old Michigan doesn’t have a state fair any more, alas.
We often went on a Friday, which seemed to be draft-horse driving day. Big rigs with four, but also individual small rigs with one. I loved watching them compete, all spiffed up and braided and decked out.
Also loved visiting in the barns, and getting to do some scritching…..
Thanks for taking us along. 🙂
