We presented the Boyz and Gracie with a shiny, new Jolly mega ball over the weekend.
For some, there was great interest in the new toy:
Ellsworth was more interested in his lunch than he was in the ball:
Initially, Patrick was too:
Because they were spooked by the green monster, most everyone headed out of the corral. Bernard’s curiosity had him by the ears though.
He stood as close as he could to the monster while standing as far away as possible:
He approached it from every possible angle:
And wherever the wind blew the monster, he followed it:
In the end, we moved the green monster out to the pasture. It was then that Bernard finally summoned up the courage to touch it.
We figure it’s just a matter of time before Bernard finds something entertaining to do with it. ♥

Patrick is thinking, “Pffft, I’ve seen crazier gadgets than that.” Love how Ellsworth keeps on chomping while Bernard circles…he’s probably alarmed at the idea he might not be able to stomp and chomp this thing into oblivion. 😀

Sometimes the baby of the family is the smartest. 🙂 I hope they all come around to having fun with it.

Oooh, I can’t wait for developments. There was a youtube video of a horse playing with one of those and he looked like he was having a super fun time…

Ah ha ha! Bernard! It doesn’t surprise me that he was the one to take the first step(s) in befriending the monster-ball! Given the way he gleefully follows “scrapey rakey” around, I’m sure he’s anxious for a new (unusual) friend! 🙂

Hey that’s the same look Bernard had when he first met the little “pink” monster from CdeC.

Ah, food first. I knew Ellsworth and I were cut from the same cloth. *grin*
Bernard cracks me up – that pose with his legs stretched out behind him, is adorable.

There’s always one critter that takes advantage of others’ fear/curiosity/distraction to gobble down as much food as possible. Around here, that’s the ponies job to sneak past skittish goats and eat their grain!

His brain cells had to be really working hard trying to come up with something he’d seen before that looked anything like that! A perfectly round rock? …that rolls with the wind? A turtle? A solid tumbleweed?
I wonder why it was less scary in the pasture….more room to run away if it came after him?

I love how Ellsworth was deeply into the feed …nummm…nummm….hummm while Bernard was edging closer. I imagine the ball didn’t roll in the pasture so it made it seem more approachable. I’m looking forward to them figuring out they can knock it around between themselves. Game on!!!!

Bernard reminded me of a child who thrives on his curiousity on any new things and wouldn’t give up until he’s contented!

So cute!! Faran does the same thing where he stretches forward to look at something while keeping his rear hooves as far away as possible hehe. It’s so adorable. Great pictures!
