As was the case in Albuquerque, you can’t swing a cat here without hitting a bird. That’s one of the many things we love about this place.
This rooster house was kitchen decor in Albuquerque. I couldn’t find a place for it here, so I stuck it up on the wall just outside our kitchen door. I never thought anyone would actually want to live in it.
Looks like I was wrong. This little house wren has definitely claimed it as her own.
From Whatbird.com:
- House Wrens are fiercely territorial, they have been known to destroy bluebird and other cavity nester’s eggs by piercing them, and then often removing the eggs from the nest.
- There have been occasional reports of House Wrens killing young nestlings (4-5 days old) or throwing them out of the nest.
- House Wrens live up to 7 years in the wild.
- A group of wrens has many collective nouns, including a “chime”, “flight”, “flock”, and “herd” of wrens.

Is there a reason not to say where you are living now? Just glad you are back, really missed reading your posts.

My Mom has a little wren that builds a nest every year in the wreath beside her back door. We are reminded to not slam the door all the time! One year she moved to a flower pot that had a cover, we had to remember not to water that plant. They are fierce!

Apparently I overlooked seeing this unique birdhouse so remind me to visit this house so I can meet Mrs. Wren the next time I visit you both and my furry grandchildren…

Favorite bird! They are so sassy and can live in virtually any hole available. I once had a nest of them in a roller blade skate in my garage.

We have wrens nest in our backyard. Harley loves the songs they sing almost constantly! They do love a good bird house, and the males often build nests in several places letting the females pick the one they want to lay eggs in.

It is time for a new post! Every time I go check on your page, I get this vivid picture of my cat Chinook being swung by the tail, mouth wide open in the hopes of catching one of the said birds… that kind of image stays with you 🙂
