We adopted Vivien on December 5. When I saw her photo on the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA website, it was love at first sight. Her name then was Pretty Girl, and I was smitten.
She came to Charlottesville through the Best Friends Animal Society from a shelter in Houston established for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
As is the case with many of the dogs rescued from Houston, Vivien tested positive for heart worm. She went back to the Charlottesville SPCA later in December for her last treatments.
She was still pretty sleepy when I brought her home the afternoon of December 21:

Being a city girl from Houston, we’re pretty sure Vivien had never seen cows or donkeys, heard coyotes, and most likely, never experienced snow before coming to Morning Bray Farm.
She’s settled in quite nicely, is learning the ins and outs of being a country girl, and is definitely finding her way into all of our hearts.
We’re all especially looking forward to this Thursday, when her post-treatment restricted activity period ends.

Carson, I have to admit… I cried like a baby when I took her back to the CASPCA for her second/third treatments, and am so relieved that this part of her journey is now behind us.
The insanity will begin after Thursday when Viv and Harper can play to their hearts’ content. It has been really, really hard keeping them apart because all they want is to play, play, play. 🙂

Vicki, ohmygosh, yes! She’s already had several cases of the zoomies, during which, each time, I’ve totally gone into freak out overprotective “mom mode.”
She’s definitely going to enjoy being able to “let it loose!”

Hello and it is good to see your post. I have not been commenting for a long time but I can’t help myself today. Getting a rescue dog that came via the hurricane that devasted Houston, is quite a good thing. There were so many dogs and cats that needed rescuing and I wished with all my heart that I were younger and didn’t have a heart condition or I would have gone with my son to Houston. It is 180 south of me.
Anyhow, Vivian looks like a beautiful sweetheart of a dog and pits make wonderful pets. She has blended in with the other dogs and that just reinforces how sweet a pit bull can be.. The heart worm treatment Vivian is getting is new to me. I’ve had one pit (arrived at my house dragging a chain) that had heart worms and his back was not shaved. Also had two other dogs years ago that had heart worms. All those had the fast kill. I am currently treating a border collie that I found in a ditch that had been dumped in a deserted area along a state highway. I am doing the slow kill and give her Heartguard once monthly I am wishing you good luck with Vivian as she becomes member of your family. .
