Just about every evening as the sun starts to set, the boys come alive with play.
I think they relish the departure of the intense sun.
Sometimes they play in pairs.
Sometimes it’s all four.
Oh how they play.
And play.

Don’t you think they need a giant equi-soccer ball so they can play team sports?

Why is there not a line of neighbors at the fenceline? Have they not caught on to the best side show on the street?

Carson,
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.

I relish the disappearance of the intense sun, too. I just don’t have as much fun doing so. Wouldn’t it be fun to be a donkey…….well, one of your (or Linda’s or Danni’s) donkeys anyway 🙂

I agree with C in Wi…. they look like they need a soccer ball.
Do they vocalize while they are doing this? It looks like loads of fun to watch.
Would they welcome your participation?

Cathy,
Interestingly, they don’t vocalize while they are doing this. They’re surprisingly quiet.
Aside from braying, the only time I tend to hear the boys vocalize is when they’re unhappy – either because I’m not serving up a meal quick enough (that’s when they do their under the breath brays/heehaws) or because they’re being seriously picked on by one another to the point of being afraid or uncomfortable (that’s when I’ve heard the desperate grunts and groans and know something is wrong). I haven’t heard any of that “picked on” vocalizing in several weeks though, which makes me happy. 🙂 After their initial introduction period, everyone is now getting along famously.
Oh yes, the other vocalization is Ellsworth’s. He always does a deep sigh when he’s content. Which seems to be all the time, and I absolutely love it.

It’s great to have a evening show isn’t it? Mine do the same thing and I love watching them.

Isn’t that something? I know our goats and sheep, well, at least when it isn’t smoking hot outside, tend to get rambunctious in the evening. I guess those boys have some extra energy to burn off.

I would love to see your boys romp in person! One of my favorite times of day is the backyard donkey rodeo 🙂

I *love* that last picture! So cute!
Look at all your beautiful green grass – it looks like a donkey paradise.
It’s funny, while we’ve had absolutely NO sun (and therefore no need to “relish the departure of the intense sun” – lol), right around 8:00pm is the time my Chester and Beau start to wrestle and gallop and chase and play. Every night it’s the same thing..we can sometimes “feel” the thundering on the dirt from inside the house and know that it’s time to come out and watch. 🙂
