Even though I only count 13 in this picture, we counted a total of 14 keets on Friday afternoon, which puts Gladys on par with Octomom.
We don’t know that she’s the same Gladys that got broody in our barn last fall, but this time, she hatched her babies.
I tend to think this is the same Gladys. She’s very attentive to her babies.
And protective. Just as she was to her nest.
Guinea keets are incredibly cute.
Gladys spent Friday night here with her babies. On Saturday, she returned to Mr. Gladys and the rest of her guinea family in our neighbor’s pasture.
Take good care of those babies, Gladys. We’re glad you were here. ♥

I thought Gladys is a farm member, now I know she is a visitor. How nice is that to have her nesting and walking around with her crowd of babies so close! They look different, but all are cute!

Yes, looks like a rock on the lower right side of the nest, yes? There was also one egg that was probably a third of the size of the rest… it didn’t hatch.

Most of the babies have similar coloring to Gladys. The lighter colored keets have Mr. Gladys’s coloring.

So many things to admire about them. Trying to decide if those hair-like feathers, sticking up on the back of her naked head/neck, are my fave…..
Do guineas come in different colors? I don’t know why I was a little surprised to see different-colored chicks (oops, keets), but I was.

Yes, they come in quite a few different colors. Pearl gray, white, slate, brown, buff, etc…

CUTE little babies!
I have a blogger friend who bought twelve identical Barred Rock pullets. She named them all “Minerva Louise” and originally discussed them collectively as the Minerva Louises.” Then one of them started getting picked on and escaped the chicken coop/yard. She became known as M.L. #12, or “Twelve” for short–she has the run of the place now, and is more like a dog than a chicken.

That’s quite a brood! I’m surprised she managed to keep that many eggs warm enough to hatch. Since she’s bringing them over to visit, maybe you’ll end up with your own borrowed guinea flock.

The Gladys’s of the world are good watch dogs too. A certain college aged person, way back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, tried to sneak into a friends house very late at night after a “party” and the guineas woke up the entire neighborhood. Talk about getting busted by the bird. tee hee
