Known commonly as the jackass, this long-eared little creature is respected throughout the southwest – roundly cursed yet respected – and here he is usually referred to by his Spanish name, burro. Because of his extraordinary bray, he is sometimes ironically called the “Arizona Nightingale.”

Lovely. Both the words and the pics. I wish more people would/could get to know how truly amazing Longears are.

YAY Arizona for recognizing the quality of the animal. Just one of the many things I love about that state.

Hard to imagine why anyone would ever “roundly curse” these guys. Clearly whomever was doing the cursing didn’t have one to hug.
