Over the last several weeks, we’ve been finding poop on our patio. And on the driveway, in the garage and even on the mat just outside our back door.
Based on the fact we discovered most of the poop in the morning and because of its size and shape, I figured a skunk was our culprit. In my mind, that skunk sure had a lot of nerve pooping in our garage and right smack on our back door step.
When Don suggested that it was toad poop, I scoffed at him. The idea that a toad could poop something a quarter of its body length was ludicrous.
With a little help from The Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management, we were able to identify our pooper. Let me just tell you, I’m simply amazed. We salute you, Mr. Toad.
By the way, if you’re wondering what The Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management is, check them out here. They’re a non-profit, grant funded site that provides research-based information on how to responsibly handle wildlife damage problems. They happen to have a great scat ID section.

I knew this one! This time of year, we have a ton of them. I have to check the dogs’ water bucket each morning since the stoopie toads often decide to take a dip, then can’t get out again. Usually they make it after I dump the water out and they can rest after swimming all night.

I used to find large toad poo every morning in our dog’s water bowl on the back porch. Mrs. Toad (they are the larger of the two sexes) would hop in each night, have a spa treatment and then leave a ‘present’ before heading on to eat snails and slugs and june bugs.

I keep finding it on the threshold of our backdoor. Have actually had conversations with the toad in the evening. He sits on the threshold and will not move even when we go in and out several times. I keep telling him/her that he’s not allowed in the house and to go find a new place to hang out 🙂
Initially I thought it might be snake poo, but putting two and two together….toad on the threshold and your pics….I’ve come to the conclusion it’s Mr./Mrs. toad leaving presents for us. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I’m not a big snake fan!

Well- I had a long comment re: the toad, etc. But one of my cats sat on the end of the key board and it all “went away.” Thanks for liking my Bloomers and Butterflies. There are toads that will poison dogs if eaten. These toads, I think, live in Florida. Might be wrong about that. Could you do a follow up post on that since you have a much larger audience than I? I found some the other morning that had a ton of white little worms (sorry to be gross) and wonder if perhaps the toads are eating maggots? (gross, gross, gross!) They looked different then worms other animals have so I’m hoping that’s what it was…I don’t want my dog to ingest it and get worms to get sick! I showed my daughter and she declared the toad couldn’t possibly have poop that big, but I told her it did have bug parts in it so was pretty sure it was poop or vomit from the toad. Too funny!!! I always wondered about those poops and it never occurred to me that they came from toads. Too large for a mouse, but too small for anything else I could think of. One night I was working in the garage with the doors open. Several toads were hanging out eating beetles attracted to the lights. As I was watching them, I actually saw one poop. My jaw dropped! It would equate to a human pooping something the size of their leg! I’ve always loved toads, but I must admit that this made me like them a bit less…

I was finding these presents in my garage. My pest guy thought it was a rat and left bait around. I found these droppings were happening at around 8 pm.
I made sure there was no food and and filled up any holes with that foam that hardens. then as I was checking every night to see if problem was solved I saw him. He came in under the saddle of garage pushed the rubber away. He stood still while I took his picture and he left without pooping, I sent the picture to my pest guy. I replaced the rubber on the garage door and thought that would solve it. No the poop continued, I cleaned the garage floor with a special wash had a salt lamp dry up any moisture in the garage and still he go in under the garage door. I placed a line of salt in front of the door and when I caught him I sprayed him with vinegar and salt water I believe he will come back,

I have the same issue and it took me awhile to figure it out. Who would’ve thought it was a toad, right?
Anyway, how do I get rid of them. It’s horrible and I’ve seen at least 3 toads and that’s a lot of poop. I need them to go away before my family get together soon.

I told my wife it was a toad and she would not believe a toad can drop something that size.

I have been giving a visiting toad water every night on our patio. I read they take in water under their belly. Not sure that was true, but offering a semi-flat bowl of water wasn’t working. So I’ve been surrounding it with a cup of water every night. He makes dark puddles, so I thought that was his poop. Then I found huge poop exactly like your photo. Oh my gosh! He has left me multiple poops. Glad it’s from a toad! I was afraid it was a giant rat.
Thanks for posting!
