Isn’t nature amazing?
I once read that the leaf bug’s camouflage is occasionally a detriment. Because of their remarkable disguise, they’ve been known to now and then mistake each other for real leaves and have been seen nibbling on one another.
Apparently there are quite a few species of leaf bugs. In some species, the edge of the leaf insect’s body even has the appearance of bite marks. And, to further confuse predators, when some leaf insects walk, they rock back and forth to mimic a real leaf being blown by the wind.
Now, really… how cool is that? ♥

Nature IS amazing. Leaf bugs and walking sticks and all of those things…and the things that are pretty for no reason! Dragonfly wings and tiny flying insects that are colored like minuscule ruby throat hummingbirds… The random beauty of it all just makes me say, “Hmm.”

He’s gorgeous! But he’d better find a green background soon, before he becomes dinner!

C,
He flew off shortly after I took the picture (camera shy), so I’m pretty sure he found himself a safe spot.

Okay…you are not going to believe this…
I had this very fellow on my car windshield two days ago. I swear. The same guy! He was so beautiful I sat and watched him nonchalantly wander around on the glass in front of me. I drove off and forgot about him. When I arrived at a stop light some time later, I was surprised to see him still there. When I moved forward with traffic, he hunkered down, his antennae plastered back in the wind. He looked like he was out for a thrill ride. He rode with me for quite a while before departing on his trip south. To visit you, apparently. Tell him I said “Hey”.

Mother Nature rocks! I wonder if goats ever mistake them for lunch? And like Cathy R said, what about winter?

Exceedingly cool!
I came across a fairly good-sized walking stick, in the woods of Missouri, once upon a time.
It was walking sturdily across the path I was taking……
Too bad that was before I started carrying a camera all the time!
ps — watch the mail….. 🙂

Start humming the Twilight zone song…
I took a picture of a bug yesterday, wondering what it was because it looked just like a leaf. Maybe Carolynn’s bug is on a world tour?
