    It’s gorgeous!
    (Mountains in distance, yes?)
Why the stalagmites there on the left?

      June,

Mountains in distance, yes. On the other side of Albuquerque.

Unfortunately, the stalagmites are radio towers. I don’t know why there have to be so many of them.

The Sandias are now Blancos. 🙂
I never knew they’d put so many radio towers in one place.

      CeeCee,

Did you know that Sandia means watermelon in Spanish?

According to Don, who is a long-time radar/radio expert, radio waves work off line of sight, which means radio towers can’t be blocked by trees/mountains/buildings. Therefore, radio towers are always positioned at the highest possible point in an area. Sandia Crest is at 10,678 feet.

It’s unfortunate that there are so many towers, isn’t it?

I did know it meant watermelon. 🙂 They named the mountains that in respect to their color during certain times of the day—or so says something I read in the Albuquerque airport while on a layover.
PS…I’m very proud of the fact that I can spell Albuquerque on the first try. I don’t know why, because there are so many other words that befuddle me.

        CeeCee,

Yup! The mountains turn pink when the sun starts to set, so there’s a saying here… “When the mountains turn pink, it’s time to drink.” 😀

Now I know, where my snow has gone to. It looks beautyful.
Is that the view from your home?!

I’be heard songs with the Sandia Mountains in the lyrics. Now I know they were named after watermelons and change colors.

    Beautiful, even with the towers.

What a beautiful sight! Sadly, we were away and missed seeing the snow on our mountains over the holidays.
