On Thursday, after seeing the Hairy Hacienda madhouse, Carson asked if you all could see what happens when MeeMaw gets ambushed in the corral. I wouldn’t say my mom was ambushed, but Fergus and Ellsworth definitely vied for her attention, scritches and hugs.
This was the first time for my mom to meet Fergus and Nigel. Fergus instantly glommed on to my mom. Interesting.
Ellsworth knew from her visit in October that my mom was good for scritches.
As always, there were a few aww moments. Look at Ellsworth’s head on Fergus’s back. You can see Nigel dutifully standing behind Fergus.
And Ellsworth rubbing his face against my mom’s back…
Fergus willingly accepted a hug…
And so did Ellsworth.
If you happen to be wondering where Bernard was during all of this, he was busying himself with trying to eat the camera and wrapping his pretzel self around me. I think he might be turning into a momma’s boy. I find myself totally okay with that. ♥

I love those pictures! The love between your mom and the boys is obvious, and then I had to laugh over Bernard and what he was doing! HA!
How long is mom staying? Does she have any animals at home?

Pat,
Mom is staying for a couple of weeks. No animals at home… but I do owe my love of animals to both my mom and my dad. 🙂

Ah, no outfit is complete without a little bit of donkey hair! Looks like the boys love their Meemaw.

C,
Keen observation on your part. 😉 My mom’s black shirt was completely covered in dog and donkey hair by the end of the day. 🙂

It’s easy to see where you got your deep love for animals, and the Donks know it.
Maybe if you made a “Chuck”, like Carson used for Alan when he was shy, maybe either you or your Mom could coax Nigel to accept a scritch. He’s so close to being included in the love-in.

gazelle,
Thanks! Ha, guess what we got just yesterday based on Carson’s recommendation? A Chuckit! We’ll be working with Nigel this weekend and will keep you posted. 🙂

Mel,

Basically, it’s a way for you to “chuck” balls for dogs who like to retrieve (it’s really a beautiful thing). What we’ve done is taped a glove to the end of the chuckit (I call it a chucker) to get Nigel used to having a “hand” touch him. I promise to post pictures soon. 🙂

Guess all “kids” know about Grandma! They’re like big golden retrievers, just want affection all the time? So cute.

Beautiful photos! Lucky donkeys that their MeeMaw loves them so. My mother has never hugged my donkeys, not a farm person, she does visit and pat though!

You know, the problem with being away from a computer for two weeks is that I have to go through all of these wonderful posts and see all of these wonderful pictures.
I now need an insulin shot, I swear!! Too much sweetness.
Do you have any theories as to why Nigel and Fergus have such different personalities? I know that you got them at the same time and that you may think that they are related…
Nigel will come around soon, because we are all rooting for him!!

Cathy,
We missed you and are glad you’re back!
Good question. No solid theories yet, but I can tell you that their personalities have remained quite consistent from day one.
I don’t know why Fergus was so ready for everything so soon and Nigel is taking baby steps… but at least we continue to forward.
I suspect that Nigel may have had some sort of negative experience with a human at some point, but there’s just no way of knowing. What I do know is that trust can take time and we’re going to give Nigel as much time as he needs – you’re right, he’ll come around soon! 🙂
