He’s been coming very close to doing it for the last few days, and he finally did. Honest to goodness, Fergus just brayed for the very first time and woke me out of a dead sleep… at 4:16 a.m. Mountain time. I know it was Fergus because it wasn’t two-part; there was no hee with the haw. It was more of a “whaaw, whaaw, whaaw…” And, needless to say, very loud.
With that said, I’m going to make a wish and go back to bed. ♥

Maybe after not talking for so long, the “Haw” part is still stuck in his throat?
Guess this means he’s coming out of his shell enough now to have something to say. Hugs can’t be too far away (or did I miss the Fergus give us a hug post?).

C,
I think it just might be. 🙂
Fergus is seriously into getting hugs now. 😀 Here are a couple of Fergus “hug posts”:

That’s very sweet. Funny how they have such different brays. Gunny doesn’t complete his…he has the hee but not the haw:-) Hope your wish comes true!

Denise,
Thanks! It is remarkable how individual their brays are.
We would love to see a picture of Gunny! 🙂

I’ll Email some to you of Harry and Gunny. Diane has had some on her blog (Snappy Di) but it’s been a while. I keep wanting more, but now we have the baby chicks and a remodel going on. And my horses and the dogs! Whew!

Isn’t it funny how a NEW voice will wake you up, when we sleep through the others !
Come on Nigel, it’s your turn to come around.

His tone and enunciation might be okay, if individual, but his timing needs work.

Yup, we think so too. At least Bernard generally waits until around 5:30 or 6. Thoughtful of him, don’t you think? 😉

Ah, he’s finally feeling at home!! Hooray!
The 4:16am part is exactly the reason we can’t have donkeys. Dang it!

CeeCee,
My first instinct was to run outside to see if Fergus was okay. I had to call in the willpower to not follow my instinct… I definitely don’t want Fergus to think if he brays at 4:16 every morning that I’m going to run out there with his breakfast!

Yay for Fergus! It’s funny how their voices can be so different-just like my horses’ whinnies. I always know which one is calling. Russell used to bray at 3:30 am…EVERY morning…found out that was the time my neighbor fed her horses before she left for work. I guess he was telling her he wanted breakfast too! 🙂

awww, that’s great! Isn’t it amazing how we know the individual sounds of each of our babies without even looking? I would have had a hard time not running out to check on him, but you did the right thing…4:16 in the morning is WAY to early for anyone to demand breakfast!

It is amazing… from brays to barks to bleats to baas. 🙂
I’m so glad now that I didn’t run out there… 😀

I didn’t realize he’d been keeping his thoughts to himself all this time. I guess this means he’s feeling comfortable and happy in his new home. Glad to hear it! (in my head….along with all the other voices…) *grin*

OH, what fun! Even at 4:16 AM! I wonder if he surprised himself?!
We have a donkey that lives a few streets over. He laughs. I love hearing his ‘Hee, Haw, Haw, Haw’ every morning!

I’m surprised that we hadn’t heard from him before. He has seemed so comfortable. 🙂
It’s not uncommon for dogs to come in to rescue so shy that they may never recover and form the bonds with humans that we expect. I know they may still be adjusting to living as pets many months after they are brought into the house.
For formerly-wild donkeys to adjust to close living with people the way these guys do … purely amazing.
Looking forward to hearing from Nigel as well (and hope he picks a time when you are not asleep….. 🙂 ).
