Baby goes to the dentist
Posted by Morning Bray under Dogs | Tags: canine dental work, canine tooth extractions, dog, dog dentist, Kassie |[17] Comments
Baby Kassie went to the vet to get her teeth cleaned on Wednesday. She came home Wednesday afternoon with a purple bandage on her leg and two fewer teeth.
From both the effects of the anesthesia and her pain medication, she was very groggy.
The important thing was that she was comfortable and feeling no pain.
When her eyes started to close and she started leaning over, I knew she was alright.
Sweet dreams, Baby.

With tons of cuddles and lots of coddling over the last couple of days, she’s doing great. Thanks to C and Wilbur in WI, Kassie even had ice cream for dessert after breakfast this morning.

Suni Lou Who loves to dream
Posted by Morning Bray under Dogs, Donkeys | Tags: dog, donkey dreams, donkeys, dreams, Suni |[32] Comments
Suni’s middle name is Lou Who because she reminds us so much of Cindy Lou Who from Whoville.
Suni Lou Who loves to dream.
Fortunately for us, when Suni dreams about donkeys, we can consult the following notations from 10,000 Dream Interpretations, by Gustavus Hindman Miller (1901):
- To dream of a donkey braying in your face denotes that you are about to be publicly insulted by a lewd and unscrupulous person.
- If you hear distant braying filling space with melancholy, you will receive wealth and release from unpleasant bonds by the death of some person close to you.
- If you see yourself riding on a donkey, you will visit foreign lands and make many explorations into places difficult of passage.
- To see others riding donkeys denotes a meager inheritance for them and a toiling life.
- To drive a donkey signifies that all your energies and pluck will be brought into play against a desperate effort on the part of enemies to overthrow you. If you are in love, evil women will cause you trouble.
- If you are kicked by this little animal, it shows that you are carrying on illicit connections, from which you will suffer much anxiety from fear of betrayal.
- To see children riding and driving donkeys signifies health and obedience for them.
- If you lead one by a halter, you will be master of every situation, and lead women into your way of seeing things by flattery.
- To fall or be thrown from one denotes ill luck and disappointment in secular affairs. Lovers will quarrel and separate.
- To dream of drinking the milk of a donkey denotes that whimsical desires will be gratified, even to the displacement of important duties.
- If you see in your dreams a strange donkey among your stock, or on your premises, you will inherit some valuable effects.
- To dream of coming into the possession of a donkey by present, or buying, you will attain to enviable heights in the business or social world, and if single, will contract a congenial marriage.
- To dream of a white donkey denotes an assured and lasting fortune, which will enable you to pursue the pleasures or studies that lie nearest your heart. ♥

In the land of skunks, he who has half a nose is king
Posted by Morning Bray under Dogs | Tags: Baby, Kassie, skunk, skunk solution, skunk sprays dog, skunk treatment |[19] Comments
There were no warning barks this time, which leads us to believe she was stalking the skunk at 6 am yesterday morning.
Don and I were in the kitchen getting ready for our day when Kassie came in shaking her head and gagging. The stink hit us like a brick wall.
The Baby was quickly escorted into the garage for her de-skunking bath.
Lord have mercy, there’s never a dull moment around here.
She’s an old pro at this now. This is the second time for her this year, which you could argue is a blessing…
…she was sprayed four times last year, after all.
We’ve given up thinking that she’ll listen to us when we tell her those black kitties are bad, bad, bad.
She knows they are, but she just can’t help herself.
‘Cause she’s my Baby, my Kassie, my little Baby Kassie.
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
By the way, if you need the recipe for a skunk solution that really works, you’ll find it on this post.

Pudels and a namesake
Posted by Morning Bray under Dogs, Donkeys | Tags: childhood pet, childhood pets, dog, Ellsworth, Fete, Georgie, Gordy, Jolie, namesake, Poodle, poodles |[17] Comments
In celebration of their marriage, my parents bought a miniature poodle puppy. They named her Fete… a French word meaning festival, celebration or party. This picture is of my daddy, me and Fete.
Fete lived to be 16 1/2 years old. ♥
“My” first dog was another poodle, whom we rescued. We named her Jolie, because she was so beautiful. Très jolie. ♥
My fond memories of Fete and Jolie make this next picture even more special for me. Meet Ellsworth and Gordy.
Gordy’s mom, Martina, recently acquired a donkey bank that she named Ellsworth because the bank has similar color to Ellsworth. According to Martina, Gordy has many characteristics like a donkey: sweet, good sense of humor and loves scritches. Gordy is a rescue, and like Ellsworth and Co, Gordy arrived at a very loving home.
Martina shared that sometimes she feels like adopting Gordy was the best thing she’s ever done for herself. His grin makes her heart happy. ♥ ♥ ♥
This picture is of Gordy, formally known as Gordon Lightfoot vonPudel (Martina gave him a classy name to make up for his neglected/abused puppyhood), and Georgie, formally known as Georgie Tara. Georgie is Martina’s other poodle; she’ll be 13 next month. Gordy is très handsome and Georgie is très jolie. Hugs to you two!
I’ve always found there isn’t much middle ground for most folks when it comes to poodles. Love them or not, in many circles, poodles are regarded as the second most intelligent breed of dog after the border collie, and before the German Shepherd. The breed is believed to have originated in Germany, where it is known as the pudel… and standardized in France, where it was commonly used as a water retriever.
What was your childhood pet and what was his or her name? If you have photos that you’d like to share, email them to morningbray@hotmail.com and I’ll post them here. ♥

Sunday Cinema – Coyotes
Posted by Morning Bray under Dogs, Sunday Cinema | Tags: coyote, coyotes, dog, Kassie |[13] Comments
Just the other day, we were comparing notes with Carson about how our respective dogs react when they hear coyotes. Normally, our dogs completely ignore them.
You’ll see that was not the case with Kassie on Friday evening as the sun was setting and a pack of nearby coyotes started howling, yipping, yelping and barking.
We measure Kassie’s alert status by how close the tip of her tail is to touching her back. ♥

A big little life

Trixie inspired me to look at things from a new perspective, made the familiar fresh again, somehow shared with me her recognition of great beauty in mundane scenes, and reawakened in me an awareness of the mystery that is woven into the warp and weft of everything we perceive with our five senses but can know only with our hearts. This may be the primary purpose of dogs: to restore our sense of wonder and to help us maintain it, to make us consider that we should trust our intuition as they trust theirs, and to help us realize that a thing known intuitively can be as real as anything known by material experience.
-Dean Koontz, A Big Little Life
I’ve always been convinced this is the primary purpose of dogs. After all, these are exactly the things that Enzi has inspired and reawakened in me. I’ll always credit the Diva for bringing me back to life.♥
If you’re looking for a good read – simple (in a good sense), yet good – read A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog by Dean Koontz. What a lovely memoir of his beloved Trixie. ♥
