Trixie inspired me to look at things from a new perspective, made the familiar fresh again, somehow shared with me her recognition of great beauty in mundane scenes, and reawakened in me an awareness of the mystery that is woven into the warp and weft of everything we perceive with our five senses but can know only with our hearts. This may be the primary purpose of dogs: to restore our sense of wonder and to help us maintain it, to make us consider that we should trust our intuition as they trust theirs, and to help us realize that a thing known intuitively can be as real as anything known by material experience.

-Dean Koontz, A Big Little Life

I’ve always been convinced this is the primary purpose of dogs. After all, these are exactly the things that Enzi has inspired and reawakened in me. I’ll always credit the Diva for bringing me back to life.♥

If you’re looking for a good read – simple (in a good sense), yet good – read A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog by Dean Koontz. What a lovely memoir of his beloved Trixie. ♥

Perhaps you’ll recall that Don and Enzi like to play a game called frozen in the snow. Way back when, we promised to share the audio component of the game with you.

Without further ado, here it is. It’s called hubba. Goodness, she’s a vicious diva. ♥

Lord have mercy.

The girls love their MeeMaw.

On Tuesday afternoon, my mom arrived from Maryland for a visit. As always, a madhouse erupted when she walked into the Hairy Hacienda.

Why is the Baby snarling at Whisky?

Once Kassie was out of range, Whisky decided it was okay to join the welcome celebration.

Which naturally led to Whisky and Kike playing. Their idea of playing is Whisky pretending to chew on Kike’s snout.

Of course, everyone eventually calmed down and Enzi gave MeeMaw a hug.

And then Enzi and Kike gave MeeMaw a hug.

We love our madhouse.

Yesterday was my mom’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mommy!

Lovey Baby Enzi’s birthday was April 23. I can not believe it was nine years ago this gorgeous puppy came into my life.

The puppy who was all legs and ears,

grew up to be my beautiful girl.

I love that she’s a diva. Might have something to do with the fact that her first car ride was in a stretch limousine. In the Bahamas, no less.

To this day, she still thoroughly enjoys chewing on a good shoe if I forget to close the closet door. I attribute this to her love of fashion.

I love that despite the fact she refuses to walk on wet grass, she gallops with joie de vivre through the pasture on watering days. I love that she always smiles when I walk in the door.

I love that there’s really no point in making the bed because she insists on being tucked in every morning as soon as we get out of it. I’m not kidding. And yes, her head is always on the pillow.

Even if celebrations are a tad scaled back from what they used to be when there were fewer children, there’s always a cake and ice cream for birthdays here.

And the birthday girl or boy always gets the first bite of cake.

The cake recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg

Directions

Mix together flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients and mix well (it comes out more as a cookie dough than a cake batter). Press into a pie pan or tart dish and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.

You might recall Enzi being described as the diva of Morning Bray Farm.

We lovingly call Suni our princess in training because she often seems to emulate Enzi’s behavior.

I think Suni is currently closing in on mini diva status. Oh dear.

Don’t be alarmed. This is just a game. It’s called frozen in the snow, and Enzi loves to play it.

Don makes a monster hand, and Enzi makes a face in return.

Enzi maintains that face until Don moves his hand again, hence, she’s frozen in the snow.

There’s also an audio component to this game. It’s called hubba. You’ll have to wait for an upcoming Sunday Cinema for that.

The girls and Whisky were treated to Frosty Paws after having their nails done yesterday.

Enzi stressed that I simply wasn’t moving fast enough.

Whisky did his best to mind move the ice cream from my hand to his mouth.

Enzi Diva is never shy.

My goodness Baby Kassie, what big eyes you have!

Various methods are employed to enjoy the tasty treat. Whisky prefers the quick extract method.

Simply remove and eat the ice cream whole. In less than 30 seconds.

Enzi and Kassie are our dainty lickers. Takes a lot longer to finish, but they seem to enjoy every lick.

Suni loves her unique scissor method. Very quick and efficient. She’s a bottom line kind of gal.

And then there’s Kike, who gets the award for innovation in technique by using the top lip over cup method. Maximum output with minimum effort. Nothing wrong with that.

In case you aren’t familiar with Frosty Paws, you can find them in the ice cream section at the grocery store. This pack highly recommends them.

Yes, Mom is obsessed with eyes. She just loves them.

Enzi

Enzi is a diva. With a capital D. And she loves fish.

The Diva is from the Bahamas, which probably explains the whole fish thing. She’s a Royal Bahamian Potcake.

Mom brought her home from Nassau as a three-month old puppy almost nine years ago. Don’t even think you’re going to bring fish on this farm without the Diva knowing about it.
