Dogs

Perhaps you’ll recall that Don and Enzi like to play a game called frozen in the snow. Way back when, we promised to share the audio component of the game with you.

Without further ado, here it is. It’s called hubba. Goodness, she’s a vicious diva. ♥

We were so fortunate to have Stanley and Cindy from Lei Photography visit us on Saturday.

The boys took an instant liking to them.

Stanley and Cindy are amazing photographers… and incredibly nice people who absolutely love animals.

Through their photos, they captured the feel and emotion of every moment they were here.

And, they completely captured the magic of Morning Bray Farm.

I think that’s a very special gift.

Thank you, Stanley and Cindy. ♥

There are a few things that set Kassie off. Each time the air conditioner shuts off is one of them. If you listen, you might hear a high-pitched whine coming from the unit… we’re sure that’s what she’s barking at. Why this sets Kassie off and not our other dogs, we don’t know.

We do know that Kassie doesn’t like new or unknown things. No kidding… she once barked incessantly at a very large mushroom she discovered in our backyard in Maryland.

Do your dogs – or cats – have strange things that rile them up?

Aww, Suni. Suni, soon, soon.

Suni’s name is pronounced Sue-Knee, so we call her Soon for short. When Suni’s around, Don and I always ask each other, “How soon?”  The answer is always, “Pretty soon.” She’s so pretty. ♥

Every now and then we find Kassandra Dee studying a toad with quiet intensity.

Thankfully she knows better than to mess with them, because biting one will make her very sick.

If only she would learn the same lesson with skunks. Thanks to Carson for these next two shots. Just look at the ‘tude – from both the princess and the toad!

We had so much fun watching Tina Louise; our neighbor’s puppy, play with Sam the rooster yesterday.  Tina Louise would chase Sam… then Sam would chase Tina Louise…

Monday is Baby Kassie’s 11th birthday. Umm, someone… hello?  Honest, she was three years old just yesterday.

Kassie came into my life in June of 2002. An acquaintance asked me to take care of Kassie for a week while she went on vacation with her family. I was puzzled when she told me, “If you like her, you can keep her.” What?!

Back then, it was just Enzi and me. The day the acquaintance brought Kassie over, the first thing Kassie did was attack Enzi… full-on barking, snarling, snapping and biting. Poor Enzi was understandably terrified. The first thing Kassie did when she came into the house was pee on the floor. I remember the acquaintance saying very softly, “Oh Cassie, no, no.”  Wow, ahem.

A stake and chain were included in Kassie’s “overnight bag.” The acquaintance told me I could put Kassie outside on the chain and leave her there all day. Kassie was used to that, after all.  The first thing I did after the acquaintance left was throw the stake and chain in the trash.

Eight years later, I’m so happy I didn’t listen to those who told me I was crazy to take Kassie on. I will forever be grateful to the Baby for teaching me a very important lesson in life.

“If you wish to be loved, love.”

She’s my baby, my Kassie, my little baby Kassie. ♥

Lord have mercy.

The girls love their MeeMaw.

On Tuesday afternoon, my mom arrived from Maryland for a visit. As always, a madhouse erupted when she walked into the Hairy Hacienda.

Why is the Baby snarling at Whisky?

Once Kassie was out of range, Whisky decided it was okay to join the welcome celebration.

Which naturally led to Whisky and Kike playing. Their idea of playing is Whisky pretending to chew on Kike’s snout.

Of course, everyone eventually calmed down and Enzi gave MeeMaw a hug.

And then Enzi and Kike gave MeeMaw a hug.

We love our madhouse.

Yesterday was my mom’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mommy!

Don: She’s my baby,

Me: My Kassie,

Don and me, in harmony: My little baby Kassie.

This is Kassie ‘s song. We sing it to her a lot.

Well, she is a baby. You remember how when your parents got annoyed with you, they called you by your first and middle name? That’s when she’s Kassandra Dee.

For example, we call her Kassandra Dee when she eats bees and her entire face swells up like a balloon. Oh, Kassandra Dee. We still love you so. Oh, how we love you.

‘Cause she’s my baby, my Kassie, my little Baby Kassie. Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh. I always throw that uh-huh part in at the end. She likes that.  ♥
