Don and I drove to Amarillo, Texas this past weekend to visit with and celebrate the birthday of a dear friend.

Once we arrived, we rode in a big car.

There were big horns on the hood of the big car.

The big car took us to a big place called The Big Texan Steak Ranch.

The Big Texan is the home of the World Famous, FREE 72 oz. STEAK DINNER (if eaten in 1 hour). If Don had attempted this daring feat, it would have looked something like this:

Not to worry, though, because no such nonsense was attempted. If you know us, you know we’re much too civilized for that sort of tomfoolery. ♥

By my calculation, Gladys has been sitting on her X marks the spot eggs in the goat stall since October 11.

Despite the fact she appears completely content, because it’s 30 days later, I’m starting to get worried about her.

From what I’ve learned, the incubation time for guinea eggs is from 26 to 28 days. Does she even know if her eggs are viable? What if her eggs never hatch? Will she sit there forever?

If, by some small miracle her eggs do hatch, it’s too cold for the chicks to survive now. Does she know this?

Is she hungry? Is she thirsty? Is she cold? Does she miss her friends and family?

In America, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge their contributions to our national security, and to underscore that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty.

Don is a veteran and I’m proud of him. In his 20 years of active duty service, he served three tours in Kuwait, one in Kosovo, one in Afghanistan, and two tours in Iraq.

Here’s Staff Sergeant Don in Kosovo, 1999.

And here’s Master Sergeant Don in Iraq, 2006.

Welcome home. ♥

A cold front came through yesterday morning and brought rain showers along with it. When I heard the rain hitting the roof and saw the sun shining, I was hoping there would be a rainbow. I wasn’t disappointed.

The fall color of the cottonwoods created a perfect pot of gold.

But you know, I should have known better than to think I was going to capture a beautiful photo of the boys with the rainbow as a backdrop. Barnyard accosted me as soon as I set foot into the corral.

Instead, we headed into the barn, dried off the camera, and enjoyed the rainbow together. ♥
