Blue flower, red thorns! Blue flower, red thorns! Blue flower, red thorns! Oh, this would be so much easier if I wasn’t color-blind!

~Donkey (from Shrek)

Don and I flew to Virginia last weekend to visit my dad.

I was in heaven. We visited the Appalachian Trail.

It was green and there were flowers everywhere.

And waterfalls.

And woods.

Did I mention flowers?

We visited the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum.

And walked in more woods. (Heaven.)

We drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Beautiful.)

We visited Natural Chimneys Regional Park. Though Maryland was the first state to choose jousting as its official state sport in 1962, Natural Chimneys has been home to the oldest jousting tournament in North America since 1821.

I fell in love with old barns.

And old houses.

I love peonies.

Love. Love. Love. ♥

p.s. Mommy, thank you for looking after the farm while we were gone. ♥ ♥ ♥

The color of tulips…

The scent of lilac…

A new delphinium Don brought home, waiting to be planted in the spring ground. ♥

Don and I visited the Albuquerque Botanical Gardens yesterday for the Winter Fire Colors Flower Show.

The show featured flowers in hot colors from Mediterranean climates.

There were eye-catching green globes of hanging sedums.

And cyclamens in shades of pinks and purples.

Forest lily.

Chilean bellflower.

One of my favorite pastimes is walking around the garden to admire our plants and flowers. Another reason I love having a blog: It’s allowing me to document our slowly expanding Albuquerque garden. ♥

Aster… planted this year. By the way, we’re gradually eliminating the gravel from our flower beds and can’t wait until it’s gone.

Basil… it smells so wonderful. Yum.

Sage. I’m not sure what variety… it was here when we moved to Albuquerque. The bees and butterflies love it.

Goldenrod… also planted this year.

A volunteer morning glory in last year’s pot. One of my very favorites.

Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’…  look at how much it has colored up. I don’t recall my sedum in Maryland being so colorful.

I’m from Maryland. I need green. I love flowers.
